Seizures are among the most common neurological problems seen in the ED. The incidence is highest in the first year of life. The emergency physician must recognize the varied pediatric presentations and have he knowledge to terminate seizures quickly and effectively. Traumatic brain injuries in children are also commonly seen and can have serious consequences if improperly managed. Long term clinical outcomes of patients with TBI will depend on the severity of the initial trauma but also the initial management which should be directed at reducing secondary brain insults.
