The approach to fever in a child will depend most importantly on the child’s age, their clinical status, and any presenting focus for infection. Pediatric fever is a common problem that presents to the Emergency Department. The majority of children will be well, but it is important to be able to differentiate those from children with a serious bacterial infection. This module will review guidelines for the evaluation of febrile infants and children in the Emergency Department.
