Pediatric abdominal pain is one of the most common presentations to the Emergency Department. Although many cases of abdominal pain in children are benign, some require rapid diagnosis and treatment to minimize morbidity. It is important to distinguish between critical diagnoses that need emergent attention and those that can be safely managed at home. It is also important to consider that the cause for the child’s abdominal pain may actually be outside the abdomen. This module will discuss the common causes of pediatric abdominal pain in the Emergency Department and their management.
