Most patients presenting to the ED with hypertension do not require urgent treatment. The deciding factors which will determine whether a patient receives urgent treatment or not include the actual BP measurement, the patient’s presenting symptoms, and the findings of end organ failure or dysfunction. This module will discuss the hypertensive patient in the ED, the associated presentations, and summarize treatment guidelines for each hypertensive emergency.
