Dr. Yasmine Mawji,

SEME Program Director                                   

Yasmine Mawji has worked as an Emergency Physician for the past 18 years at the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.  She is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Mawji has previously held the position of Program Director for Undergraduate Emergency Medicine Clerkship at the University of Toronto.

 

Dr. Noah Farber, MD, CCFP(EM)NoahFarber

SEME Program Assistant Director

Noah Farber works full time as an Emergency Physician at both an urban tertiary care centre as well as a community hospital.  He is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Farber completed the Comprehensive Instructor Course at the Harvard Centre for Medical Simulation and is the lead of the simulation curriculum for SEME.

 

Nancy Medeiros, HBSc. Nancy_SEME

SEME Coordinator

Nancy Medeiros has been the Program Coordinator for he SEME program since its inception in 2012.  Nancy began working for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto as an Administrative Coordinator for the Undergraduate Emergency Medicine Program in 2002.  She is a University of Toronto graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Dr. Ian Chernoff, MD, CCFP(EM)IanChernoff

Ian Chernoff is an Emergency Physician at the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital. He has 8 years of community Emergency Medicine experience in urban and semi-rural settings.  Dr. Chernoff has been involved in the SEME program since its inception.  He has extensive teaching experience in Point of Care Ultrasound, and is the ultrasound lead for the SEME program.  He has completed Fellowship training in ultrasound, and has Master Instructor certification with the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society.

Dave Dushenski has been a staff Emergency Physician for over 20 years. He is the Chief of the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

John Foote has worked for 21 years as a full-time emergency physician in Toronto at a community hospital and an urban tertiary care centre.  He is the Director of Education at the Schwartz-Reisman Emergency Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Director of the Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of Toronto.  He serves as the National Chair for the EM Committee of the Canadian College of Family Physicians and as a member of the CAEP Academic Executive Committee.

Maria Ivankovic is a staff Emergency Physician at the Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga and St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto.  She is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Ivankovic is a Master Instructor in bedside ultrasound (EDE) and loves to teach.

Sameer Kumar is a Critical Care Physician at the Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga.  He is the Physician Lead, Simulation at the hospital.  Dr. Kumar is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  He has earned Testamur status in Adult Echocardiography with the National Board of Echocardiography.

Eric Letovsky is the Chief of the Emergency Medicine Program at Trillium Health Partners, which consists of the emergency departments at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and Urgent Care Centre at the Queensway Health Centre.  He is the Director of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, where he is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine.

David MacKinnon has served as the Deputy Chief of the Emergency Department at St. Michael’s Hospital since 2011.  He is both an Emergency Physician and a Trauma Team Leader at the hospital.  He completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario and Family & Emergency Medicine residency at Queen’s University.  His current and recent roles include work in quality improvement, patient flow, medical imaging in emergency patients, education, global health, and ED redesign.

 

Dr. Sev Perelman, MD, MSC, CCFP(EM), FCFP, CHSE-ASevPerelman

Sev Perelman is an Emergency Physician at Mount Sinai Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  He has been the Director of SIMSinai for the last 6 years which has allowed him to design and participate in numerous educational initiatives and research projects.  Dr. Perelman is credentialed by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator – Advanced and is a co-chair of the SSH bench-marking committee.  He is an award-winning teacher and has been an invited speaker at several national and international conferences.

 

Dr. Jonathan Pirie, MD, MEd, FRCPC, FAAP (PEM)jonathanpirie1.jpg

Dr. Jonathan Pirie is a staff physician in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.  He currently is the Director of Simulation for Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Simulation Fellowship program.  His clinical interests include resuscitation, fever, and risk for serious bacterial infection, and procedural sedation.

Nadia Primiani is an Emergency Physician at the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital.  She previously worked in Vancouver and Calgary before coming to Toronto.  Dr. Primiani is the Post Graduate Education Coordinator for the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre and her academic interests include medical education and simulation.

 

Dr. Arun Sayal, MD, CCFP(EM)ArunSayal

Arun Sayal is an Emergency Physician at North York General Hospital in Toronto and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  Since 2005, he has run a weekly Minor Fracture Clinic at NYGH.  Combining his ED and fracture clinic experiences, CASTED was created in 2008.  CASTED is a series of practical, high-yield, hands-on orthopaedics courses.  Over 250 courses have been presented across Canada.  Dr. Sayal has won over a dozen awards for his teaching in the ED and with CASTED.

 

Dr. Brian Wall, MD, BSc(Eng), FRCPBrianWall

Brian Wall is a staff emergency physician at North York General and St. Michael’s Hospitals.  Focusing on emergency airway management in his fellowship, Brian is an active AIME national airway course instructor and has published Cochrane research concerning procedural sedation.  Locally, he is an award-winning clinical teacher with a budding interest in ECG quality assurance.
