The incidence of ectopic pregnancy is increasing worldwide. This rising incidence is believed to be due to an increasing rate of pelvic inflammatory disease. One retrospective study found that 18% of women presenting to the ED with abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding were diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. This module will review the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of ectopic pregnancy.
