Physicians should always consider the possibility of child abuse or neglect when a child presents to the Emergency Department. Child abuse is prevalent worldwide but it is often underreported and the true incidence remains unknown. It can occur across all ethnicities and socioeconomic classes. This module will discuss the different categories of child abuse and their common Emergency Department presentations.
