Breathing

WebPage_BreathThe assessment and management of breathing is the next most important aspect of resuscitation after the airway and, in reality, the two are often managed in conjunction.  As stated in the airway module, ensuring adequate oxygenation and ventilation are of critical importance in the management of the emergency patient.  Although this module is laid out in a traditional “history, physical examination, investigations, treatment” format, every emergency practitioner knows that, in the critically ill patient, acute management comes first, and ancillary data often is gathered in a simultaneous, parallel fashion.
