Anxiety Disorders

CoverImage_anxPatients with anxiety disorders commonly present to the Emergency Department.  Mood and anxiety disorders combined represent the most prevalent of all psychiatric disorders seen by primary care physicians.  The main goal in assessing a patient with an anxiety disorder in the ED is to ensure the symptoms are not due to medical condition not yet diagnosed – 42% of patients presenting with a complaint of “anxiety” actually have an organic disease.
