The Markham Stouffville Emergency Department is a busy general community emergency room caring for over 85,000 patients per year.  Pediatrics comprise approximately 30% of their patient population.

Sinai Health System, Mount Sinai Hospital

The Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre is an academic emergency room with approximately 65,000 visits per year.  The hospital specializes in obstetrical care and care of the elderly.  Situated in the heart of downtown Toronto, Mount Sinai Hospital cares for a high proportion of homeless patients as well as patients with mental health and addiction issues.

North York General Hospital

The Charlotte and Lewis Steinberg Emergency Centre at HYGH is a busy general community emergency department with approximately 100,000 patient visits per year.  NYGH is a regional children’s health centre where 20% of patients seen in the ER are children.  The hospital also has a strong obstetrical focus.

The St. Michael’s Emergency Centre is a busy academic emergency room.  The hospital serves as a regional trauma, stroke, and catheterization centre.  Situated in the heart of downtown Toronto, St. Michael’s services a large proportion of homeless patients as well as those with mental health and addiction issues.

The Scarborough and Rouge Hospital consists of two community emergency sites with combined patients visits of 110,000 per year.  Pediatric patients account for 30% of the patient population.

Toronto East Health Network, Michael Garron Hospital

This active community emergency department treats approximately 85,000 patients per year.  Pediatrics make up approximately 30% of their patient population and the ER has a dedicated centre.  Michael Garron Hospital specializes in vascular and thoracic surgery.

William Osler Health System, Brampton Civic Hospital

The Brampton Civic Hospital Emergency Department is one of the busiest, high acuity emergency rooms in Ontario with approximately 135,000 patient visits per year.  Pediatrics comprise 30% of their patient population.

The Etobicoke General Hospital Emergency Department is an active community emergency room treating over 70,000 patients per year including 17,000 infants, children, and youth.

The St. Joseph’s Health Centre Emergency Department is a busy community emergency room caring for approximately 100,000 patients per year.  A dedicated pediatric emergency zone has been created to care for infants, children, and youth, which comprise 30% of their patient population.

The Credit Valley Hospital will open a new 24-bed Medical/Surgical Critical Care Unit in spring 2017.  The hospital is a regional centre in dialysis, thoracic surgery, maternal-child care and oncology.

University Health Network

The University Health Network consists of the Toronto General Hospital and the Toronto Western Hospital.  The Toronto General Hospital is home to Canada’s largest critical care unit and is divided into a medical/surgical critical care unit and a cardiovascular intensive care unit.  The hospital specializes in vascular surgery and transplant medicine.  The Medical/Surgical Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Toronto Western Hospital is one of the largest neurosurgical intensive care units in the country and is a regional centre for patients with neuroscience disorders and spinal cord injuries.

St. Michael’s Hospital

The Critical Care Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital is divided into four dedicated intensive care units with a total of 64 beds.  The focus of the individual units includes trauma, neurosurgery, cardiovascular care, and medical/surgical critical care.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

The Critical Care Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has twenty beds.  The hospital is a regional stroke, trauma, and catheterization centre and specializes in neurosurgery and vascular surgery.  The Health Centre also has a dedicated 13-bed cardiac critical care unit.

Humber River Hospital

Humber River Hospital is located in northwest Toronto and serves a population of 850,000 people.  It is a regional centre for dialysis and oncology and the first centre for excellence for laproscopic bariatric surgery.

The Medical/Surgical Critical Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Health Centre has 17 beds.  The unit supports a busy surgical service that includes thoracic, hepatobiliary, and bariatric surgery.

St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto is a community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto that has served the communities of West Toronto for nearly a century.  St. Joseph’s provides acute surgical services for 12,000 cases per year in the fields of thoracics, hepatobiliary, bariatrics, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, gynecology, ENT, plastics, dentistry, and ophthalmology.  The Department of Anesthesia also supports the Family Birthing Centre where more than 3,300 deliveries occur each year.  The epidural rate is approximately 70%.

Sinai Health System, Mount Sinai Hospital

Mount Sinai Hospital is a 442-bed acute care centre whose clinical strengths include women’s and infant’s health, geriatrics, and specialized cancer care.  The Department of Anesthesia provides care for over 8,000 patients undergoing general anesthesia each year and supports the Slight Family Labour and Delivery unit where more than 7,000 deliveries occur each year.

St. Michael’s Hospital

The Trauma Program at St. Michael’s Hospital was accredited in 2006 as a Level 1 trauma centre and provides care to multi-system trauma patients in the southern GTA and South Central Ontario.  It plays a central role in the regional trauma system, receiving patients from quaternary trauma care from across the province.  St. Michael’s Trauma Team cares for approximately 700 trauma victims per year.

The Tory Regional Trauma Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is home to Canada’s first and largest trauma centre.  Since 1976, the Tory Regional Trauma Centre has provided highly specialized care for he most severely injured adult patients in Ontario.  Patients arrive by land and air ambulance from over 80 referring hospitals around the province.  It is also a designated trauma centre for wounded Canadian soldiers.
